USD$3,240/Person/Sharing
Mountains Level : Strenuous 13 Days Max 8 Trekkers

Perfect short trek with stunning panoramas from Kyanjin Ri and Cherko Ri, even to the distant Tibetan plateau

Langtang Trek : The great mountain explorer Bill Tilman made three treks in Nepal in 1949 and 1950, to each of what are now the three main trekking regions are the Langtang Trek, Annapurna Trek and the Everest trek. His first climb to Langtang was not successful in mountaineering terms, but as an exploratory journey, it must have been as enjoyable as any he undertook.

In 1959 ( after almost 60 years ago) Grand Father of Last Frontiers Trekking, lead a Japanese Expedition into the Langtang valley, as the first Sherpa Liaison Officer to supervise the Langtang Himal Expedition via E. ridge.

There are many reasons why a person might travel and trek. Sometimes we travel to see what our limits are and push our boundaries. The Langtang Region Trek reminds of the history and footprints we have left in the Langtang Region. A very special place in our hearts.

This is why we have crafted this short trek in Nepal. Langtang trip to provide you with the perfect blend of Adventure while providing a chance to take in the natural beauty of Nepal. Most of the region is inhabited by the Tamang ethnicity that is influenced by Tibetan culture and tradition. They are friendly people that welcome travelers with warm hospitality.

With a mixture of adventure, visiting the first Cheese Factory in Langtang, and Scenic Trek, this Langtang trek will be the perfect trip for people who want to challenge themselves to cross boundaries, explore and make memories.

Early in the morning, we drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi which takes about 6 hours, then another less than 1 hour ride to Khangjim. Driving through the scenic foot-hills and ridge-line vistas, to Syabru Besi passing Dhunche. We’ll get a glimpse of Ganesh Himal (7,422 m) after driving along the mighty Trishuli River. Terraced green hills and lush forests make the drive very pleasurable. Parts of the road though may be bumpy and under construction. Our drive for today ends with a final ascend going up to small village of Khangjim. Overnight in Khangjim.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

The first part of the trail crosses through the Bhote Koshi River and follows the Langtang Khola. This trail gradually ascends up to Bamboo (1,960 m) passing rugged paths. Afterward, our trek climbs gently to Rimche (2,400 m). We can have lunch at this place and at the end of our trail is the Lama Hotel. En route we could see red pandas, monkeys and bears if we are lucky.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

The trek route follows Gumanechok at Ghoda Tabela which literally means the Horse Stable. After this the trail climbs gradually to the beautiful valley with yaks about. Langtang is a typical village and one of the oldest along this trekking route. The views of the mountains are spectacular and become more imposing as we trek closer.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

It is shorter walk today, but adequate for acclimatizing. There are some interesting things to explore, especially the famous cheese factory — don’t forget to try some locally produced yak cheese as fresh as it could get. This beautiful valley is on the lap of the Langtang Lirung. This is the spot where we can explore the valley and climbs several small peaks (hillocks).

Rest of the afternoon, you can explore the area. You can visit the monastery and the cheese factory.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

We spend the whole day exploring Tserko Ri, which will also help us acclimatize to the high altitude. We begin early in the morning, and today we will spend all day out in the high lands. A pack lunch is provided for this day. The trail passes through yak pastures before ascending to Tserko Ri. The sunrise view from the top of Tserko Ri is extraordinary. We get back to Kyangjin Gompa by late afternoon.

The climb is also one of the more challenging day trips, taking anywhere from two to four hours to ascend depending on your fitness, how well you can acclimatize, and the trail conditions. There are two trails that start up the initial ridge: one a bit further north in the valley is a bit easier, but they both merge quite quickly.

The ascent starts out rather straight forward, pushing up an adjacent smaller peak, and then rounding to the back side of Tsergo Ri. This is where the trail gets a bit more difficult as it requires you to climb over a number of boulders and rocks, sometimes at a strong upward angle. While not terribly difficult, it’s not a bad idea to take your time through this section, as twisting an ankle here isn’t an ideal situation.

The top of Tsergo Ri is a very pleasant spot with plenty of space. Most stunning of course is the excellent mountain panorama view that unfolds before you, allowing you a really stunning sight. You get a perfect view of Langtang to the West, Yala peak to the North, and Dorje Lakpa and Shisha Pangma to the East. You can see very clearly the Ganja La pass through the southern mountains as well.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

Today, is yet another long day heading north towards the Nepal/Tibet Border. This is a good long walk that takes you all the way up the valley to where the Salbachum, Lanshisha, and Langtang glacial moraines all converge. To get there you just continue on the trail heading north past the turn off to Tsergo Ri and past the air field. During the walk you only gain about one thousand feet over five or so miles. Round trip this can take the better part of a day so its best to pack some snacks and bring some water with you, though the trip itself is hardly straining.

Along the way you get some great views of the nearby peaks including Dorje Lakpa, and eventually Shisha Pangma, the only 8,000-meter peak in Tibet. During summer and early fall, many yaks are still up in the high pastures here. This portion of the valley also contains a number of semi-permanent stone settlements where herders live in the summer months while tending their yaks.

Toward the end of the trip you have to start climbing up and around some of the old glacial terminal moraines, though the walking and the trail continue to be quite easy. After this you reach the actual site of Langshisha Kharka, which is marked by a number of poles with prayer flags and a few semi-permanent stone structures. A large festival is held here every August that attracts people from the whole region, as far away as Helumbu, to celebrate how the valley was supposedly found; a Buddhist lama chasing a yak high into this place.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

We begin our trek after breakfast and retrace our steps to Lama Hotel. Most of the trekking today will be downhill as we pass through forests and beautiful Tamang villages. We also get to enjoy different view of the Himalayas that we had missed climbing up. Overnight in Lama Hotel.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

We basically retrace our steps back to Syabrubesi. The trek will be easier as it will mostly involve descending. Overnight in Syabrubesi.

Overnight at a guesthouse. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

After breakfast, we drive back to Kathmandu from Syabrubesi which will take some 8 hours on a bus.

Overnight at a hotel. Breakfast, Lunch included.

We will be touring some more sites in Kathmandu today. Some of the highlights for today will be Bhaktapur Durbar Square, and Pashupatinath Temple.

In the evening we will have a farewell dinner in a traditional Nepalese restaurant with cultural performances.

Overnight at a hotel. Breakfast and farewell dinner included.
