Everest Base Camp led by local women guides

As you trek from Lukla to Everest Base Camp, you will probably notice that women are an integral part of the Khumbu region. From the vegetable garden to the kitchen to the dining room in the lodges, women are always in action. You may wonder if they are only at home, but the truth is that they play a vital role in creating a great hospitality for the trekkers who come to Khumbu every year.

In recent years, women have also become a big part of the mountaineering arena. Sherpa women from all walks of life have been involved in the trekking industry. One of the experiences was in 2018, when we planned and executed an all-women trek, co-led by local Sherpa women guides, for one of our women’s adventure travel partners. For this planning, we specifically wanted local women guides from the Khumbu region because it’s their backyard. But the truth was, it wasn’t an easy task, we inquired locally about women guides in Khumbu and interestingly most of the women actually run and manage local lodges. So it was a challenge for us and we did some more research.

After several months of searching for local women guides in Khumbu, we discovered a few select guides that we thought were amazing. And we wanted to continue this tradition to offer an epic trek to Everest Base Camp with these amazing women guides.

Two hikers wearing hats and backpacks stand facing each other, engaging in conversation against a mountainous backdrop. One wears a wide-brimmed hat, and the other wears a purple cap. These amazing women guides exemplify the spirit of women's adventure travel.

What To Expect?

Note On Itinerary

Although we generally stick to the schedule date, the itinerary is subject to change for numerous reasons beyond our control, including weather and terrain conditions, lodging availability, and the group’s general timing.

Qualification

The Langtang trek is considered moderate. It’s a great introduction to trekking the Himalayas, particularly if you are nervous of the more high altitude expeditions. The highest point on the trail is 5,364 meters. However, you will have the option to opt out if you wish.

Air Travel

Please check with your travel agent for a better route to fly into the arriving destination. We advise you to check with us before purchasing your airline tickets to ensure your trip has the necessary minimum number of participants required to operate.

Weather

The two best seasons for the Everest trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (mid-Sept to mid-Dec). The winter months are also possible, however, you will have to prepare yourself for some cold nights!

Distance of the Trek

The route is 65 miles or 110 km. This means that you will be trekking for an average of 6 hours per day on the 17-day itinerary.

Lukla Flight Note

Please note that often the Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu flight gets delayed by a few hours or may even be canceled for one, two, or more days due to unfavorable weather conditions. Such conditions may arise even in the best seasons. Hence, in such cases, you must be prepared for long waits either at Kathmandu or Lukla airports, as this can happen either at the start or end of the trek or even both! We will do our best to avoid such delays, and arrange the next flight for you.

In such a situation, we have covered you to take a Helicopter ride from the airport to airport.  It can be from either other end airports.  We will be able to cover 1 time use of helicopter one-way only.

The helicopter charges around USD 3500 and it can lift 4-5 persons per flight. Still, we suggest you be prepared for possible delays/cancellations, and if possible to come with some extra buffer days (1-2 days) at the end of the trip to accommodate such delays. If everything runs smoothly and you still have a few days of your buffer days left then you may even engage yourself in optional activities which can be arranged by Last Frontiers upon request. The optional activities may include visiting places/landmarks of your choice, adventure sports, shopping, etc.

However, please note that there will be no refund, if you lose time waiting at the airport and do not take an alternative tour or you only do a short trek later due to time limitation. If the cancellation happens before the trip, we will provide you with accommodation and lunch in a guesthouse in Kathmandu. In case of a flight delay/cancellation after finishing the trek, you will be responsible for all your expenses. Please also note that you will not be entitled to any refund for the services (such as hotel, transport, flight, etc.) included in the package that you would not use later.
